OK, so I never had any interest in watching Lois & Clark when it was on the air. Everything that I saw from the previews made me think that it was
little more than a daytime soap with a super-powered alien as one of the characters (which incidentally is not the most far-fetched thing that daytime soaps
have come up with). So to anyone out there who just loves the show, please tell me: was I wrong about the soap-opera thing? If you do like this show, what
specifically about it makes it good?

It's very much a family show, which is a good thing or not based on your tastes. It did in fact focus more on the Lois and Clark relationship and less on
the Adventures of Superman, but there are a number of villains from the comics that show up. True, they are not all that faithful most of the time to their
comic book versions, but like the movies or Smallville have been either! If you want to base a Superman show on that, I'd say go watch the Bruce Timm
cartoon.
Anyway, I personally really like the show and feel it stay more true to the Superman mythos and character then Smallville, but that is just me. Season 1 could be a stand alone from seasons 2 to 4 as the first season is mostly about Lex Luthor (who has hair for most of his appearances) and a different Jimmy Olsen. I personally feel Teri Hatcher was a great Lois Lane. Maybe not the best, but up there. I'd say if you are not sure, why don't you rent it first if you can and see if you like it. It is at least worth that much.

I watched it when it was on the air. I liked it alot at the time, and still do - though it's certainly a bit dated now, so far as the styles and outfits
and all (though that's to be expected).
Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain had a good chemistry on-set, and I liked the interplay with Perry and Jimmy as well. I could have done without the Cat Grant character though - never liked her in the comics, either. As for Luthor... I like his character in the show. Alot. The show is more than a soap opera, but each episode DOES have a plotline involving Lois and Clark. The ending scenes are often a tongue-in-cheek scene where Lois pines for Superman, or asks Clark why he can't be more like Superman, and then Clark giving a funny look to her backside. It's definitely a family show, and as Milo said, it has its own spin on the characters. IMO, if you can find the set cheaply enough, it's worth picking up. |
