Just wondering what size & type TV's people have. I just picked up a 42" Westinghouse 1080p LCD last night for $599 at BJ's. I've been
waiting for this for a while and I was ready to do it a couple of weeks ago at $649, but when I asked the guy at the counter when they would be getting more
in, he told me to wait because they were going to have the $50 coupon on it. Even at $649 it's a steal because most 42" 1080ps are still in the $799
range. Only down side is that it doesn't have an S-video connector on it, but once I get some other cables for my other equipment, the only thing left
that will need the S connector is the S-VHS VCR, which is collecting dust anyway.

I'll stick to my old faithful, a 28" widescreen CRT TV. Pics are ok & I aint gonna pay extorsionate fees to have HD Sateliete TV.
Plus I am in a small flat, still I have my cheap DDS Sound DVD player which shakes my floor with the coolest sounds! |

The wife and I got a 42" Visio 1080p from WalMart for either 799 or 899 back in October (I think) I spent $40 on an up-converting DVD player, set
everything up at the house, then went back to Wally World for a frickin $30 HDMI cable. Wish I'd read the box before I took it home, ticked me off. This
was right after we got the Firefly series on DVD, so that was the first thing we got to enjoy on the big screen. The up-converting things work great. Of
course, they arent quite HD, but look great just the same. I also hooked up my old PC behind the TV. That way, when we miss out on any shows we wanted to see,
I can just download them and watch them straight from the PC. It has an old 32mb vid card, which seems to put out better quality than our "HD" cable
box...
On a separate note: My grandmother just got a 42" (Samsung, I think) that has great picture. She doesn't care about having HD satelite, so hasn't upgraded her DirectTV box. She does, however, get HD local channels through her 15 year old antenna... This antenna is hooked up to one of those very outdated, flat 2-wire jobs that should have been replaced with coax years ago. It is hooked up to one of the old connectors that turns the flat cable into a coax. If that old thing can carry a perfect HD signal (which, again, looks better than the HD channels I get through my cable box), why do they persist in forcing us all to buy these HDMI cables??? |

I have three LCD's. a 46 inch Sony in the Family Room, a 42 inch JVC Slim in the Guest Room and a 37 inch Samsung in the Master Bedroom, all three are
1080P, I use the one in the Family Room to watch both Blu-ray and regular DVD's on.
Seems that we all are headed in the same direction, just taking different paths to get there. |

Marketing, man. I used to work for Radio Shack. Don't look at the dollar amounts, look at the markup percentage. They might only make 20% selling something
expensive like a TV or computer, but all those carded and bagged connectors and cables have upwards of 80% markup. That's where the real money is, because
people always need to replace, add and extend what they have.

Pioneer Hi-Def 53" rear screen CRT projector. LCDs and Plasmas are still trying to make their pictures look as nice as they do on this set! It's 6
years old and still looks as good as it did on day one. Unfortunately no HDMI inputs, so no "upconverting dvds" but I have plenty of HD-DVDs and
Blu-rays that look super! And a well mastered DVD always looks good on it. I hope to have this set for at least another 5 years.

In the living room we have a Mitsubishi 52" LCD. I really like it, but I think I'd like to upgrade the sound.
In my theater room I have a Toshiba LCD front projector which displays on a 164" screen. Its really cool. The screen is about eleven feet wide and over 5 feet tall. Whats really great on it is to play Wii tennis. The little characters are almost lifesize. |

at home I have a 50" Fujitsu Aviamo Plasma. I feel so fortunate to have gotten this TV. The best display ever made. Fujitsu has since left the flat panel
tv business.
My showroom at work has a 50" Pioneer Kuro Plasma, 52" Sony Triluminos LCD XBR7, JVC 50" LCD, and for a front Projector - the Sony VPL-VW200. All are at 1080p. I'm spoiled. Pioneer is now also quitting the TV business. There is simply no market for high-end TVs. Everyone wants the cheapest. |

720p Optoma HD700 DLP Projector (slightly cheaper version of the HD65 available in the US). I have a 80" size image. I also have a 32" LCD TV for
watching TV. Any favourite shows get turned into DVD and put through the projector.

Um, where'd you get that info? They can't do it! Not until I get my Kuro... and that is still several years off. When my current Pioneer goes down, I only want to replace it with the best HDTV money can buy.

Wow, very big bummer. I really wanted my next TV to be a KURO. Hearing about the deep inky black levels had me pumped to watch space movies in a completely
darkened room. Also, there would be no need for me to use the mattes I had been using to mask out the "black bars." But with our bills and the
economy the way it is, it is going to be several years before we buy another set. Hopefully in that time there will be an HDTV that approached the quality of
the KURO. Although it seems quality is the least of consumer concerns these days.

Last week I finally joined the club and got an HDTV. Picked up a 42" LG and also grabbed a Philips Blu-ray player. Love it. My problem now is that even
with the upconvert, I don't want to watch my regular DVDs anymore. I only want to watch my Blu-rays. And I only have four. Granted, four good ones, but
only four.
I find myself wondering as I make the transition to my third medium (VHS then DVD and now Blu-ray), what could possibly be next? 1080p looks so good that I can't possibly see it getting better. And yet, someday there's bound to be something better.
