OLED TV's are the future but they are too expensive £3000 for a 13" widescreen TV and the tech only last 4 years before the LED's burn out. I still wonder if Holographic Discs will make a appearance with movies (HVD) or the next format will be solid state (think of Star Trek TOS).

It's great for all hdtv but of course it won't do blu-ray. I mostly watch TV Shows anyway and HDTV is not going to go 1080p, at least not for many years, so I'm still happy. I'm looking for a WXGA projector too, maybe for sports and the Wii. It'd have to have high brightness. Life -size Wii-tennis sounds awesome!

It's great for all hdtv but of course it won't do blu-ray why won't it do blu-ray? 720p is still way better than 480p of a DVD. Super thin is the new thing. TVs as thick as an iPhone. A few different technologies can do that. LCD, LED, OLED. unfortunately, a lot of the R&D $ for new technologies just isn't there. I don't anticipate anything really exciting for a while. First these companies need to stay in business! They are dropping like flys.

I merely meant Blueray is designed for 1080p, and my tv won't display that. My up-scaling media box and LG DVD player do 720p though so I'm very happy. So why would I bother buying a Blueray Player? If you have a good argument then please convince me! With a nick like "Hometheatre" you sound like you know what you're talking about! CptPants

The higher bitrates and resolution makes it worth it. Proper 720p or higher is even better. My current projector is 720p. I can't use 1080p due to being too expensive plus the image would be smaller than I have now in the same space. They need to be put further back to retain the same image size or have it bigger.

I can watch my existing collection of DVDs, so no need to get Bluray just yet until its alot cheaper.

Not only the video, but a much improved audio soundtrack. DTS HD and Dolby TrueHD are far superior than what you can get on a DVD. That being said, blu-rays are s-l-o-w. Upscaling DVD players do a pretty good job. For the most part, I buy DVDs. Special titles I'll get in Blu-Ray. I got The Dark Knight and WALL-E on Blu, but Quantum of Solace didn't make the cut.

Some do look good but upscaling whether it by the player or the display is basically rubbish. If the DVD has a decent bitrate then the picture can still look good. It can't beat proper HD resolution even it is downscaled to 720p though. Some DVD's now look like watching VHS all over again. I was never going to replace DVD's with Blu but I have done around 15 so far of my favourite films and it has been worth it. I like the new HD formats but my system probably doesn't have good enough speakers to show the difference apart from my nice B&W 602's fronts. I had to scale down the size of my centre and rears as the old speakers were now too big for my newly decorated room. TDK is worth it just for the Imax scenes. They were just incredible. I wasn't going to get the Bonds on Blu but I have the old SE's and they look awful upscaled. I managed to get the first 6 Bonds released on Blu for just £5 each. I will wait for the others to be that cheap.

But sure is tempting...... Or i might go to a Bluray player, as i guess they'll get cheaper when more recorders comes out. Til then, budget dictates & I'm happy with my DVD upscaling Player.

I will be sticking with Blu Rays for films and just standard SD Freeview for TV. £1000 may sound expensive for that player but my Panasonic HS2 was £900 and that is a 40GB HDD recorder with single analog tuner. That Blu Ray one will have at least 512MB HDD and I bet it will come more than one HD tuner. It would then match the one that has been out for a while in Australia.

I have a 19-inch, 4x3-aspect Durabrand television. which ran me $100 in 2006. As for my DVD player, it's a $40 Toshiba, which I bought last year after my loyal Apex-brand went psycho (it was glitching like crazy after 6 years of use). I do hope to get a Blu-Ray player at some point; just not sure when as of yet.

To display for the reason you bought it, yes. Depending on the player you get, some of them don't have older standard connections like S-video. The lowest level they might have would be the R-G-B connections. My outlook on life - we're all on the Hindenburg anyway...no point fighting over the window seat.
