			<description><![CDATA[ It has been a Trek tradition over the last 40 plus years to explain away inconsistencies, nitpicks and the like. Why did Spock seem so different from
Pike&#39;s command to Kirk&#39;s command a decade later? Why didn&#39;t all powerful Gary Mitchell know that Kirk&#39;s middle initial was T instead of R? How
did Khan remember Chekov? What happened to the Organian Peace treaty? It&#39;s questions like these that have spurned on many a novel and fan fiction over the
years.

			<description><![CDATA[ rickssg, I think that in a round about kind of way you&#39;ve finally hit teh nail on the head. Quibbles about the movie, and what it means in the larger
setting of Trek? There are many.

But I think the spirit, and as you said indeed the <em>premise</em> of Trek is there in the new movie. And really, to me that counts more than a bit of
contemporary Rock &amp; Roll, cars, etc.

available then? A quarry/gorge that deep in Iowa? 200+ year old rock music being actively played? A 17 year old at the helm of the ship? A mining ship

			<description><![CDATA[ I&#39;d just like to say that even though I liked the whole Star Trek series, it was time to wrap it up. I even liked Enterprise because it tried to reboot the
franchise, but the loyal dyed in the wool trekkies hated it because of the same reasons they hated this movie. It (Enterprise) ultimately failed I think
because <em>only</em> trekkies wathced it, and that was the problem.

I would say the main event that altered the timeline was the fate of the planet Vulcan. But, also Kirk&#39;s birth and younger years were now very different. I
don&#39;t think Nero had any idea that Kirk&#39;s father was on the ship until well after the event happened. It was just bad luck for the elder Kirk that Nero
happened upon his ship.

			<description><![CDATA[ I think the Corvette scene was used to convey that young Kirk had a more tumultuous time growing up and through the phone conversation establish that he
didn&#39;t get along with is step-dad. It was very quick though. I do agree that the Uhura/Spock thing was just a plain change. There are issues with the movie
(timing of who is where when didn&#39;t always match up. Instead of having careers before serving on Enterprise, they all apparantly now just start working
together out of the academy.... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ I saw the movie twice this weekend, which is saying something. The last movie that I paid theater prices for twice was the first Narnia movie, and that was
only at the insistence of my wife and kids. I grew up watching re-runs of the original Star Trek series and I remember going over to my friend&#39;s house to
watch the premier of TNG. I watched much of DS9, but could never really get into Voyager or Enterprise. So there is my fandom background.

essentially action movies and STVI was a murder mystery/action movie.

(best to worst): 2,8,1,11,9,4,3,7,6,5,10.   Any movie that can bring it back from Nemesis, HAS to go in a completely different direction.   People that say
